Paper, ff. I-IV (contemporary parch.) + 190 + I (mod. parch.), contemporary foliation, 184 × 120 (142 × 84) mm., two columns of 24 words per line, frame ruled in ink, 1-1512 1610, no catchwords or signatures, written by Francesco Maria Sallando in an Italic script. Decoration: f. 1, a monogram of the name Todesco (letters layered one upon the other); the title on the fourth parch. flyleaf verso begins with alternating gold and blue calligraphic Roman capitals. Binding, marbled brown calf, blindstamped, marbled edges. fourth parchment flyleaf, (List of rhyming words in Petrarch and Dante), title "Tutte le rime di Dante et del Petrarca raccolte nelle stampe d’Aldo et messe per ordine, come segue dal conte Ludovico Todesco Piacentino: rescritte in Roma a sua instanzia da Francesco Maria Salando da Bologna del MDXLIX del mese di gennaro", f. 1, inc. "Al P[etrarca] Rai 4: Guardai: Andai: 10:98:150 ...", f. 181 expl. "... D[ante] ... Uzzo, Galuzzo. 201. Puzzo. 201. Aguzzo. 201" (Petrarch on the verso and Dante on the recto).

Written in Rome, Italy, dated January 1549 (as per the introductory note on the fourth parchment (flyleaf), for Lodovico Tedeschi by Francesco Maria Sallando, a relative of Pietro Antonio Sallando and successor as writing master in Bologna during the mid-sixteenth century; see A. Mercati, Saggi di storia e letteratura, 1 (Roma, 1951), p. 43, footnote 1.
The paper label on the front pastedown with "The John M. Wing foundation of the Newberry Library"; in modern pencil on the back flyleaf is "60. 2542. RIE".
