Description: - ff. 295 - Fifteenth century. Original sewing on three double, twisted, tawed thongs which are laced into wooden boards of unequal shape and thickness. Plain, wound endbands sewn on tawed cores are laced into the boards from the spine edge. The cover is adhered to the square spine and kermes pink placemarks to the fore-edge. One quarter covered in brown calf, blind-tooled with lines forming triangles, and very small flowers. One fastening, the catch on the upper board, the brown calf strap attached to the lower with a metal plate. Parchment labels at head of front board. Lower joint repaired, strap wanting. - Purchased by Yale in 1956 with the Penniman Fund. - Shailor, B. XVI, in blind tooled leather, now limp, but formerly reinforced with printed paper waste as suggested by remnants still attached to the leather; parchment manuscript waste lines the spine. On the front cover, stamped in blind, title and date. - On the front cover, coat of arms of the Leliwa crest of the Tarnowski family. Purchased from B. Rosenthal, 1959.

10. San Marino, Huntington Library, HM 00851
Description: - ff. i + 129 - Bound, s. XVIII, in heavy wooden boards (the top now loose) covered by leather blind-stamped to form rectangular frames; one of the rolls of foliage with a stag, a unicorn and 2 oval frames, one enclosing a man with tablets (?) and a palm leaf, the other enclosing a man with a crescent on his head ("horned"?), possibly Aaron (?). Large rosette centerpieces and 7 remaining cornerpieces shaped as 2 birds back to back and twisting their heads toward each other; one of the cornerpieces now attached to a top edge instead of its correct position on a bottom edge, as shown by the position of its protruding metal rest. Evidence of 2 fore edge straps, presumably closing to pins on the front cover. - Written in Poland in the sixteenth century for a Franciscan convent. Date and source of acquisition by Henry E.
