125. San Marino, Huntington Library, HM 30957
Description: - ff. vii + 199 - Bound, s. XVII, in limp parchment with remains of 2 fore edge ties; title on the spine in a round gothic script "derrotero de la Carrera de las India[s]." - Notes on front cover "SN 118," and on front pastedown, "$SEE" (?). A letter, dated 22 July 1968, on file in the Huntington Library from Dra. Lourdes Díaz-Trechuelo of the Escuela de Estudios Hispano-Americans de Sevilla suggests that this manuscript may have been in the private library of the Marqués de Ayamonte, to whom the book is dedicated. After his death it probably passed into the library of his relative, the Conde-Duque de Olivares, a library consulted by A. León Pinelo for his bibliography published in 1629. - C. W. Dutschke with the assistance of R. H. Rouse et al., Guide to Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts in the Huntington Library (San Marino, 1989). A. León Pinelo, Epitome de la biblioteca oriental i occidental, nautica i geografica (Madrid 1629) 149. A. 126. San Marino, Huntington Library, HM 37542
Description: - ff. 10 - Formerly bound with HM 00177, vol. 2; separated in 1975. - On f. 1, upper left corner, "39" in ink, possibly indicating its number in a series of Spanish documents; in center of upper margin, "33," in pencil. On the first leaf of most books of HM 00177, with whose Vol. 2 HM 37542 was formerly bound, a small section has been clipped out, possibly to remove some identifying marks, and replaced with matching paper on which the original text was recopied by tracing. An early Huntington Library report mentions the presence of the bookplate of Don José Colón of Cáceres on the first page of Vol. 2 (Book IV); it is no longer in the book. The back pastedown bears a pencilled bookseller's notation "AY 81." - C. W. Dutschke with the assistance of R. H. Rouse et al., Guide to Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts in the Huntington Library (San Marino, 1989).
